Un rat est une personne non humaine

raterie

The rats in my ratery are first and foremost non-human people in my eyes. The day when animal rights will be democratized then perhaps the asking price for two raccoons that have been raised within the Chimera rattery will no longer be based solely on the characteristics of the animal such as the friendliness of the character and to the aesthetic aspect of the color of a rat’s hair, of the marking or its dilution, but rather on the financial value of the time that has been invested in the socialization and rehabilitation process carried out by the rat breeder. Rats are not laboratory products or merchandise, any more than food for reptiles or even vermin classified as pests, which must be destroyed by all means, including those that are more barbaric.

Why did I create a ratery?

For the nature of the rat that never ceases to impress me. I believe that rats should be among the animals to which it is imperative and urgent to grant them the status of non-human persons. Carrying out the reproduction of the domestic rat brings us constantly to rub shoulders with rats and observe them in his own rat house and that is why I am well placed to maintain the opinion that my rats have nothing to envy to primates.

When a rat to adopt leaves my rattery, I am aware that most of the time, the human who adopts him will be surprised for sure by the appearance of the rat which makes him practically human. Failing to admit that their intelligence corresponds in many points to those of primates, these happy new adopters will gladly concede that the intelligence of the rat is equal to that of a dog. The rat is the little lap dog you’ve always dreamed of.

The rats in my rattery have emotional ties

Even if it doesn’t always go smoothly from felines, rats seek to establish social bonds with cats even though they know perfectly well that they are primarily predators and can inflict severe injury or even worse, take their life. Despite this, sociability in rats is so heightened that they manage to tame their fear of predators if they are regularly confronted with them.

A rat thinks

A rat reflects on the correctness of a decision and its consequences, such as whether choosing a treat in the form of food inflicts pain on a other rat he likes, he will make the decision to ignore this food reward and not eat it to prevent his companion from suffering cruel punishment.

A rat makes decisions

Thanks to his remarkable intelligence, a rat is able to drive a car by performing complex actions in order to have access to food it likes. The maneuvers he must perform are a matter of skill combined with a reflection articulated around obtaining the intended goal. Here, it is not a question of simple maneuvers but of pressing certain wires to connect to the directions of the wheels which allow the rats carrying out this experiment to drive the car and orient it in the desired direction.

A rat can feel a wide range of emotions

Every day I see the rats in my rat house feeling all kinds of emotions such as:

  • Joy
  • Happiness
  • Frustration
  • Boredom
  • Fear
  • Sadness

A rat has a conscience

A rat has a conscience because it is able to regret these choices. He’ll adjust for sure after feeling frustrated at being deprived of a treat after a bad choice.

A rat learns

If there’s one thing the uninitiated rats know about rats, it’s that they learn at lightning speed and they memorize a lot of actions that give them pleasure, comfort or stimulate their curiosity.

Domestic rats have inherited in their genetics the keen intelligence of their ancestors, the laboratory rats. These lines of laboratory rats have been selected for their extraordinary faculties.

However, it’s worth mentioning that the rats didn’t need to wait for the scientists to arrive to show intelligence. They are naturally endowed with a remarkable intelligence in the wild and it is moreover this cognitive faculty which attracted the attention of the learned men of the time who decided to capture them to make them undergo decades of suffering in very often inhuman experiences. But anyway, are humans used to behaving humanely with animals? Very often not, because he considers that he is superior to an animal and that he can afford to take his life if he wants to and if it is useful for him to achieve his goals.

A rat transmits its knowledge

A rat transmits its knowledge to its raccoons and also its feelings towards humans, which is why it is essential as a rat breeder that my rats and my rats develop a bond of trust towards me from their childhood. If my rats have confidence in me, they will certainly pass on their knowledge to their children by teaching their raccoons that they can love human beings without fear of being hurt. I always raise my rats with love, respect and play. So my rats laugh with me and pass this attitude on to their pups. I find myself with little raccoons who like to laugh in turn and indulge in playing with humans in complete confidence.

A rat laughs, those of the Chimera rattery too

As I just mentioned, the rats in my rattery laugh a lot because I have so much fun with them. Scientists have recorded ultrasounds and found that rats laugh like young children. You know that pure laughter that characterizes toddlers? If you could hear the ultrasound, your ears would fill with all kinds of childish giggles from your happy rats, showing you how much they love you.

A rat communicates

Rats communicate through play and I can assure you that it is impossible to remain unmoved by their mischievousness. This is one of the aspects of rats that makes them super endearing and funny. Rats are playful and love to communicate with their humans in this way. If you take the time to play with your rats, they will always respond to your call, faithful, happy, and very happy to establish an exchange with you.

Reproduction and rearing conditions for my rats in my rattery

As far as the lives of my rats that are part of my rattery are concerned, their lives as well as each life of the rats that my rats give birth to are very important and never would cross my mind to kill a newborn baby raccoon.

La ratterie Chimère is an ethical breeding of domestic rats where the value of the life of our pups as well as that of their parents is at the center of our concerns. Not only do we provide them with quality living conditions from birth, but we also respect the value of the lives of these ultra-sensitive, intelligent and social beings.

By adopting a Chimera raccoon, you are helping to encourage ethical behavior that prioritizes animal welfare in the first place, that is to say that we opt for a responsible and respectful attitude of each life that is generated within our breeding.

We don’t practice culling

No raccoon life is sacrificed when they are born into the Chimera rattery. We do not practice culling since we are in total disagreement with this technique of slaughter which consists in killing several newborn babies from a litter and in our opinion, nothing justifies culling.

This debate has been going on for too many years and is dividing the pet rat community because many rat enthusiasts believe that rat owners who culling do so for practical reasons or are motivated by a pecuniary interest. There is therefore nothing ethical about acting in this way.

For our part, we were trying not to condemn anyone. Given that these owners of rats believe they are entitled to practice culling, we will try, by writing articles, to raise the awareness of people who want to adopt rats, by making them understand that they are encouraging this not very rosy practice by adopting in unethical ratting.

Our hope? That one day, this unjust practice will stop completely by finding other alternatives that allow giving the right to life to all these wonderful little beings who have a soul from birth.

Always remember to find out if the raterie you are interested in practices culling. It is up to you to see what you are capable of supporting or not in your soul and conscience.

This technique is called culling and some breeders who do rat breeding practice it. Here is some interesting scientific reading on this subject:

To shoot down or not to shoot down

I have my own definition of breeding and it is based on respect for all my rats and their pups, even if they are puny. The fact that a raccoon is more delicate does not mean that I put it aside. Instead, I’m going to highlight his character and work with it.

I do rat breeding and rat breeding</ a>. When I focus on the character of the rat, I am at the level of my behavioral breeding programs and when I work on lines for the physical and aesthetic characteristics of my rat pups, then they join my breeding programs of my different lines. .

Some people do not necessarily want their pet to have impeccable beauty, but rather to have an endearing character in order to be able to live an experience that will mark them forever. life. In this case, I direct them to my pups which are part of my behavioral breeding programs. Other people will instead look for a gorgeous fancy rat who maintains high standards of beauty with a good character as well. In this case, when the aesthetics and the good character of the animal must be both present, I direct them to my breeding programs of my different lines.

Living conditions of my rats in my rattery

Great care is given to the layout of the cages of my rattery since in my opinion, it is imperative that my rats consider their cages as their homes and not a prison, so I make sure that they love it like I love my own home, and that they feel safe like any human has the right to feel safe from outside attacks that may occur thanks to a roof that keeps them sheltered from the possibility of these. I make sure that there is always something new to discover since rats constantly need to learn. Their little brains are in turmoil throughout their lives and as a breeder of rats, it is absolutely necessary to give them intellectual nourishment.
